In 2014, six colleagues formed Saginaw Power & Automation (SPA). Since then, our staff continues to grow and meet our customers’ needs. We are an electrical and mechanical consulting engineering and services company that employs and develops hard working, technologically talented, and dedicated employees.

Position Description

The Electrical Engineer works in a team environment developing control system designs, power system designs, commissioning new equipment, and troubleshooting customer systems. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated and have both technical and commercial experience. Duties will require a high degree of interpersonal and technical skills, communication, and organization.

Qualifications

The Ideal Candidate for this position shall have:

  • BS in Electrical Engineering.
  • 2+ years relevant experience in industrial or consulting environments.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD.
  • Understanding of programmable logic controllers, electrical systems, and electrical design.
  • Strong Interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills along with a willingness to go the extra mile to provide and manage project information.

Responsibilities

  • Work with design team to create electrical design packages for customers in the industrial sector (Oil & Gas, Mining, Energy, etc.).
  • Complete calculations and analyses of electrical systems.
  • Work with internal technicians and design personnel with the building and testing of electrical equipment in house.
  • FAT testing with technicians and customers
  • Troubleshoot and upgrade control systems.
  • Traveling to customer sites to provide field verifications and commission equipment.
  • Preparing written reports and project documents.
  • Make considerations when designing and implementing control and power systems related to the following: Economy, safety, reliability, quality, sustainability, maintainability, and expansion related to customer needs.
  • Identify areas of improvement and add to the team environment.
  • Work will include 30% travel throughout the US on average for commissioning and field verification activities.

Position Description

The ideal candidate will be self-motivated and have both technical and commercial experience. Duties will require a high degree of interpersonal and technical skills, communication, and organization.

  • BSEE, BSME or Computer Technology or Information Systems education or equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years relevant experience in industrial or consulting environments.
  • Excellent communication skills along with a willingness to go the extra mile to provide and manage project information.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and upgrade control systems.
  • Design PLC and HMI based control systems based on P&ID’s, specification, drawings, and research or from customer review meetings.
  • Make considerations when designing and implementing control systems related to the following: Economy, safety, reliability, quality, sustainability, maintainability and expansion related to customer needs.
  • Work with internal technicians and design personnel on best available technologies for various applications and best assembly methods to meet UL508A design criteria.
  • FAT testing with technicians and customers.
  • Identify areas of improvement and add to the team environment.

Position Description

The Power System Engineer works in a team environment developing power system designs, completing power system modeling, commissioning new equipment, and troubleshooting customer power systems.  The ideal candidate will be self-motivated and have both technical and commercial experience. Duties will require a high degree of interpersonal and technical skills, communication, and organization.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years relevant experience, demonstrates knowledge of industrial power systems.
  • Experience using power system modeling software such as SKM Power Tools for Windows, EasyPower, ETAP, etc. preferred.
  • Experience programming SEL and GE solid state relays preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills along with a willingness to go the extra mile to provide and manage project information.
  • BSEE with a focus in industrial electrical power systems or equivalent experience.
  • Professional licensure, or capability to obtain professional license.

Responsibilities

  • Perform power system modeling and design of new and existing electrical substations and power distribution systems using SKM Power Tools for Windows software.
  • Oversee industrial conversion projects including project scoping, detailed design, installation, and onsite completion of projects.
  • Duties may include procurement, assembly, testing, installation support, on-going maintenance support, service agreements, system startups, and engineering projects.
  • Make considerations when designing and implementing power systems related to the following:  Economy, safety, reliability, quality, sustainability, maintainability and expansion related to customer needs. (Commercial skills)
  • Identify areas of improvement and add to the team environment.

Position Description

The Electrical Technician works in a team environment assembling, installing, testing, upgrading, and troubleshooting control and power systems. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated and will have industrial experience. Duties will require a high degree of interpersonal and technical skills, communication, and organization.

Qualifications

The Ideal candidate for the position shall have:

  • 2+ years relevant experience in industrial or consulting environments.
  • Experience assembling, installing, testing, upgrading, and troubleshooting control and power systems equipment.
  • Excellent communication skills along with a willingness to go the extra mile to provide and manage project information.
  • Vocational training or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

  • Work with customers to complete on-site installations.
  • Assemble and wire control panels based on UL508A.
  • Re-build and test low and medium voltage circuit breakers.
  • Assemble and wire power system relay panels.
  • Install and commission systems at customer sites.
  • Work with internal designers and engineers to meet project objectives.
  • Identify areas of improvement and add to the team environment.
  • Work will include 30% travel throughout the US on average.

Position description

The Electrical Designer works in a team environment completing electrical design and drafting projects. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated and will have industrial experience. Duties will require a high degree of interpersonal and technical skills, communication, and organization.

Qualifications

The Ideal candidate for the position shall have:

  • 2+ years relevant experience in industrial or consulting environments.
  • Experience with electrical drafting and design.
  • Experience using AutoCAD software.
  • Excellent communication skills along with a willingness to go the extra mile to provide and manage project information.
  • Vocational training or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

  • Complete one-line diagrams, panel layouts, schematic diagrams, wiring diagrams, and instrument loop diagrams.
  • Follow UL standards during panel designs for panels that will be built in our UL508A shop.
  • Support shop technicians with panel design / build questions.
  • Follow NEC requirements during design
  • Identify areas of improvement and add to the team environment.

The Company

Saginaw Power & Automation (SPA) is a systems integrator and electrical services provider established in 2014 in Saginaw, MN. We are a growing company with over 30 employees consisting of registered engineers, engineers in training, project managers, field and shop technicians, designers, drafters, and support staff. We provide engineering and engineered products for heavy industry, oil and gas, and municipal customers in Northern Minnesota and throughout the US.

Position Description

The Electrical Engineer Intern or Co-op works in a team environment assisting Engineers and Designers in developing control system designs, power system designs, commissioning new equipment, and troubleshooting customer systems. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated and have both technical and commercial experience. Duties will require a high degree of interpersonal and technical skills, communication, and organization.

Qualifications

The Ideal Candidate for this position shall have/be:

  • Working towards a BS in Electrical Engineering.
  • Familiar with AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks.
  • Understanding of programmable logic controllers, electrical systems, and electrical design.
  • Strong Interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills along with a willingness to go the extra mile to provide and manage project information.

Responsibilities
